Taimen Float Trip

Mongolia’s most scenic float trip with excellent fly fishing for Taimen, Lenok and Grayling. Perhaps Mongolia’s best kept fly-fishing secret, even without the chance to catch a 50-inch Taimen the river offers world-class scenic float trips, and a remarkable experience of Mongolia’s unique nomadic culture. Inaccessible canyon sections offer pristine and secluded angling, with access only by raft.   In the five years since we began operations here we have pioneered new approaches to community-based conservation of Taimen fisheries.  Our close relationships with the local communities also bring an interesting perspective to our trips.

Remote sections of the river have healthy Taimen populations, with Taimen over 50-inches in many pools. This freestone river also has abundant Lenok and Grayling, and we regularly encounter Taimen attacking hooked Lenok.  Double handed rods and spey-casting can be employed to good effect. On some pools we can sight Taimen from the cliffs; elsewhere you need to cover the water efficiently with a single or double-handed rod to maximize your chances.

A fly-fishing float trip with a focus on wade-fishing with single or double handed rods. Comfortable camping in yurts or tents. No helicopters required, domestic flight and overland travel to the put-in point. Professional guides, and excellent wilderness cuisine.
