Fishing on the Delger continued to be excellent through the summer, but changeable weather and rain made for tough conditions and slower than usual fishing in early September. Never the less everyone connected with Taimen and all had an enjoyable trip.
“This is a very belated note, now that you are likely to back in civilization, to tell you what a terrific time I had on the Delger with your crew. It was a delightful experience which I had put off for too long. Well done all around. Congratulations to you for running a first class operation.” Ralph P.
Over on the Uur we hosted Zeb Hogan and a National Geographic TV film crew for a few days at the end of the September, filming for Zeb’s mega-fish series. They then continued down to the Taimen Conservation Fund camp at the Eg-Uur confluence to complete their filming; expect to see the finished film on Nat Geo TV in the new year.
Fishing picked up towards the end of September, but the monster that Bill connected with threw the hook after a brief fight. The way Bill described the encounter with that fish, ‘mouth like a bucket’ and ‘tail like a shovel’, that could have been the biggest fish in the river and certainly the fish of a life time if it had been landed; at least it will keep Bill in a life time of stories.
“That was great trip and that nature…. wow… it’s so beautiful. And that river and those fishing places, don’t know how to describe…. Thanks to you, and your whole team.” Juha M.
We experienced some of the usual hiccups in logistics, and were unable to fly direct by cessna into the camps in September, but fortunately we were able to re-arrange and re-locate camps to enable transfer by domestic flight and a short jeep trip; just a reminder that anyone traveling to Mongolia needs to be prepared to ‘go with the flow’ incase logistics don’t go as planned.
“Thanks to you and your team for a great trip. I know its tough logistically and our group really did appreciate the efforts of all. Special thanks to Cody and Daniel for their expert guidance.” Doug J.
Guide Dan Bailey returned for his second season guiding with us, and was joined by fisheries biologist Cody Rettke. Everyone was impressed with the enthusiasm and effort that Dan and Cody put in to making their trip a success. Mongolian guide Jack (Jangar) landed over a dozen Taimen on the August guides trip, including a 25 pounder, now we can hardly keep a fly-rod out of his hands; its been a pleasure to see Jack develop his passion for fly-fishing over the last three seasons.
