The Rivers
Fly Fishing Mongolia’s Taimen Rivers with Fish Mongolia

The Taimen rivers that we fish are possibly Mongolia’s best kept fly-fishing secrets, and include some of the most beautiful rivers in Mongolia; freestone mountain rivers carved through limestone and granite canyons or flowing through wild Taiga forest. Even without the chance to catch a 50-inch Taimen these rivers offer world-class scenic float trips, and a remarkable experience of Mongolia’s unique nomadic culture. Inaccessible canyon sections, and wilderness headwaters, offer pristine and secluded angling, with access only by raft or on horseback.

Remote sections have healthy Taimen populations, with Taimen over 50-inches in many pools. These rivers also have abundant Lenok and Grayling, and we regularly encounter Taimen attacking hooked Lenok. Double handed rods and spey-casting can be employed to good effect, and on some pools we can sight Taimen from the cliffs; elsewhere you need to cover the water efficiently with a single or double-handed rod to maximize your chances.

You’ll notice we don’t use the names of the rivers freely on our website; this is to protect the locations from unwanted attention. Don’t worry, we have the full rights to fish these rivers, are actively protecting the beats we fish, and work with the local communities to ensure the long-term sustainability of these amazing Taimen fisheries.
